I am slightly overweight. What kind of saree should I opt for?

Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009
It’s all about choosing the right fabric. A saree in a right fabric draped gracefully (fitted neatly and without any unnecessary tuck-ins) can literally make you look 5 pounds lighter.
Sari
  • Pick lighter fabrics such as georgettes, chiffons, crepe, etc. instead of stiff ones. Avoid heavy cotton which will make you look heavier.
  • Always buy saris which will drape and fit close to your body.

  • Avoid light shades. Dark and enriching colors works best if you are overweight.
  • Make sure your saree is draped neatly. (Do not tuck in unnecessarily to adjust the look of your saree)
  • If your saree is of a heavy or thick fabric, then avoid tucking too many pleats at the waist. Gracefully, adjust the length of your saree so that it’s evenly draped across your body.
  • Avoid shiny or glossy fabrics.

Sleeveless Blouse

For casual moments, stick to a simple blouse, with minimal embellishments, that is comfortable.

Halter Neck Blouse

Parties and social gatherings are perfect to flaunt fashionable and stylish blouses such as halter neck, bikini style, off-shoulder, etc., of course depending on your body type.

When it comes to weddings or festive occasions, it’s a good idea to choose a blouse that is designed in a simple and traditional manner but which flaunts heavy embellishments.

For slim types short sleeves, puffed sleeves, ruffles, ruching and heavily embellished blouses look best.

Long Sleeves Blouse

For those who are on the plump side it’s best to stay away from a lot of embellishments or trimmings. Simple and clean cuts look best. As far as sleeves are concerned, 3/4th sleeves or long sleeves look extremely flattering.

RAIR Sari

Opt for shades that strike the eye. Any dark shade that is warm and enriching at the same time would complement your complexion. Avoid plain pastel shades and pale colors that blend into your skin. However, printed or textured pastel shades would give a very pleasant look.

You should choose colors with golden undertones and earthy tones. These type of colors such as beige, orange, ochre, etc usually complements your skin tone. Always try and experiment with warm and enriching colors such as brick red, maroon, mustard, emerald green, turquoise, etc. Avoid colors with blue tones, like navy, dark blue, etc along with dull and dark shades such as dark brown, dark grey, etc.
