Making of a Patiala Suit.

There are several traditional forms of salwar kameezes that are prevalent in the Indian culture. One such garment is the Patiala suit, which is named after a city in the North Indian state of Punjab, Patiala. The name’s origins can be found from the garment which was worn by the king of Patiala, which were baggy pants and full sleeved kurtas. It soon became a trend in the kingdom and women started copying them as well. Patiala salwaars are very loose and baggy, in fact the looser the salwaar is, the better.

CbaZaar has some sample images of the Patiala suit from Ms. Keshu Shrestha from Thailand. Based on those images, we gave her the following design to rock the outfit!

Keshu apparently wanted a Patiala suit to wear to a college event. The information we could gather from the samples received from her, demanded a design with a multitude of color combinations.

Brainstorming anyone?

Here’s where the thought process got us.

Colors

Hot Pink, Red, Purple, Blue, Mustard and Green.

Fabrics

Kameez – Pure Silk
Patiala Salwaar – Pure Crepe

Dupatta – Net

Making of the Patiala Suit – The Story.

We used gota laces on the kameez to ensure that Keshu’s suit would standout at the event. The different fabrics to be used for the Patiala suit were dyed in different colors, keeping the color combination in mind. The dyed fabrics in different colors were then placed on a single fabric. Beautiful Zardosi scallop lace was attached at all the joints. The gotas were enhanced by adding a cluster of sequins around them.

Zig Zag pattern was adopted for the gold dota strips to look completely stunning and distinguished as per the requirement.

Needlework on the neckline, hemline, edges of the sleeves and on the borders of the dupatta were emphasized with twisted gold gota laces.

Well, we bet that Dolly (the mannequin) is happy to wear this on!
