Lakme Fashion Week, 2016, Winter/Festive – Round Up

It’s that time of the year again when the Lakme India Fashion Week enthralls us with their exceptional line-up of prominent and upcoming designers throughout the course of the week. The Winter version of the Lakme Fashion Week, 2016, kick started on the 24th of August and who better to get it going than designer extraordinaire Tarun Tahiliani.

Tarun Tahiliani

The event was held at the St.Regis in Mumbai and saw the participation of 92 designers backed by 15 sponsors. Tahiliani’ themes for his new collection were rather subtle with a combination of earthy tones with ethnic grandeur. Shades of maroon, black and jade-green along with rust-orange were the most prominent shades in his collection. The showstopper of the event was Bollywood Diva, Kangana Ranaut who looked absolutely sensational.

Hemang Agrawal

Hemang Agrawal, this year strayed away from his trademark printed and incredibly embroidered silhouettes, for his more heavy metal-inspired ‘Varak’ collection, creating a slew of gleaming shapes in gold, silver and copper. Showcasing a range of easy going yet intricate and charming shifts, dresses and sarees. It’s a well-known fact that plenty of artisans struggle with taming zari or metallic yarn. But with this collection, Hemang Agrawal’s full blown ensembles tame the wire to create shimmery, metallic collection that really makes him stand apart from the rest.

Sanjay Garg

The end of the Sustainable Fashion and Indian Textiles Day at the Lakme Fashion Week, Winter/Festive, 2016 saw ace designer Sanjay Garg’s label Raw Mango showcasing its latest collection called ‘Monkey Business’; an array of garments of sarees with festive motifs woven into the fabrics. To keep the theme in place, the show saw an all-percussion band performing wild tribal folk tunes reminiscent of Stevie Wonder’s ‘Jungle Fever’, as the models appeared on stage. Although known widely for his woven Varanasi silk silhouettes and Chanderis, Garg really put himself way out of this control zone, which paid off incredibly.

Manish Malhotra

Most thing Manish Malhotra touches, turn into gold, much like his new collection consists of intricate design work combined with the most striking and smart silhouettes along with the expert use of fabric to create pure magic. The whole event this Lakme Fashion Week W/F, was a showcase of fairy tale designs with the amalgamate of stunning floral work and tons of shimmer, leading to nothing but a stunning collection of clothes. As always, Manish Malhotra’s showcase of his latest designs was plagued by his usual bevy of Bollywood celebrity fans.
