Ethnic trends to endorse – Runways to Bollywood

In a country like India where the fashion trends for the season are dictated by what the celebrities wear to various events like film promotions, award ceremonies, launches, television appearances and other social commitments, the celebrities are constantly under watch and cannot afford to make any errors when it comes to their fashion choices. A flop film may be forgiven and forgotten, but both the public and the press never forget a fashion faux pas. This blog is going to tell you who passed the fashion tests in the past few months, and who got it right with their perfect Indian wear ensembles.

The True Fashionista – Sonam Kapoor – When it comes to film promotions, most stars tend to dress up like the on screen persona of the film that they are promoting, to connect better with the audience. Let us take Sonam Kapoor’s numerous appearances in the past month to promote her newly released flick, Raanjhanaa. Keeping in tune with her character, we saw her attired in simple yet elegantly styled saris, paired with simple jhumkas. She chose to experiment with a South Indian sari as well, for one particular event held in the South. For some events, we even saw her dressed in intricately detailed lehengas, with layers to give it that added touch. Hence, you could all take a cue from this lovely fashion icon and wear something different than what you would usually wear, this festive season.

Ethnic My Way – Sonakshi Sinha – Another star who has been seen out and about a lot, is Sonakshi Sinha, who is promoting her movie Lootera, with full force. She has been sporting elegant saris in neutral colors such as cream, off white and beige, with simple butti work on the skirt and a nice thick border, along with low back blouses, to complete the whole look.

EYEconic beauty – Aishwarya Rai – Coming to award ceremonies, as we saw at the recently aired TOIFA awards 2013, while most stars chose to attend the ceremony in western attire, there were a few stars who stayed true to their Indian roots. One such fine example was Aishwarya Rai, who was spotted in a floor length, full sleeved green anarkali, embellished with heavy gold work. She looked like the perfect picture of poise and charm in this outfit.

Sparkling Beauties – Neha Dhupia opted for a high waist, flaired lehenga skirt, with the dupatta secured over one shoulder with a belt. This look, though unusual, garnered high praise among fashion critics, as it made her stand out from the rest of the crowd. Sparkly saris also seem to be gaining a lot of attention this season as both Anushka Sharma and Priyanka Chopra were spotted in glamorous saris.

As you can see, that all these stars pulled off all their looks, as dictated by the very best fashion mavens of India, with elan and panache, and there’s no reason why you can’t do the same! So go ahead, step out of your comfort zone a little and try one of these ensembles to stand out of the crowd this festive season.
