Pristine Beauty

Thursday, March 18th, 2010

Just when you think that there’s no way they can look prettier than this, they prove you wrong. Be it movies or any event they attend, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Katrina Kaif are always at their best. Their flawless beauty leaves you breathless. And to add that, their style sense is almost impeccable.

This time, both the celluloid goddesses have been spotted in shades of white, and as usual they are nothing short of perfection.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s love for sheer saris continues and this time it’s white. A Manish Malhotra creation. White sheer sari with light pink embellished border features embellished buttis throughout. Well tailored sleeveless blouse and a satin in-skirt peeping through complete the ensemble. Accessories include a pair of drop earrings and shimmering stone-studded bangles. Consider this look for an elegant evening party.

Gorgeous Katrina Kaif’s look was all about regal glamour with a touch of class. She was spotted in a Tarun Tahliani off white/light beige flared Anarkali with maroon velvet bodice. Her net dupatta with heavily embellished border, embellished buttis throughout and faux pearl beads latkans is truly awesome. A pair of gorgeous danglers enhanced the look of this divine beauty. A similar outfit would be perfect for engagements, receptions or a glamorous evening party.

55th Filmfare Awards 2010

Thursday, March 11th, 2010
55th Filmfare Awards

55th Filmfare Awards

It was time again for the much awaited annual ceremony of acknowledging and honoring the best in Hindi cinema – the Filmfare Awards.

Needless to say, it was a night filled with fun, thanks to Saif Ali Khan and Shah Rukh Khan being the perfect witty hosts, and of course with all the glitz and glamour that is so characteristic of Filmfare Awards.

Amongst all the stage performances, Shahid Kapur’s tribute to Michael Jackson was just superb. Yet again, he proved himself a dancer of extraordinary caliber.

Speaking of outfits, it was a tie between evening gowns and saris, and since we are a ‘little’ biased towards Saris, we give thumbs up to the following celebrities in Saris.

Vidya Balan

Vidya Balan

Winning the Best Actor (Female) award for Paa was of course the reason for that glowing face, but Vidya’s bright orange viscose and mustard yellow net saree with embellished black border did enhance that glow further. A rudraksh bead necklace was the only accessory which definitely made the entire look quite interesting. Copy her look with a similar saree and a beaded necklace.

Nandita Das

Nandita Das

Nandita Das, who won a Special Award for her movie Firaaq, looked charming as usual in a golden beige saree paired with deep red blouse, red clutch and a beautiful necklace.

Kalki Koechlin

Kalki Koechlin

It was a pleasant surprise to see Kalki Koechlin, winner of Best Supporting Actor (Female), in a cream net saree embellished with sparkling sequins. The trendy collared blouse was just amazing. She chose ear studs and a bejeweled decorative hair clip as her accessories. Simple yet elegant! Opt for a similar dreamy look with a sheer saree in shades of white.

Urvashi Sharma

Urvashi Sharma

Model turned actress Urvashi Sharma looked extremely pretty in a light beige saree with green brocade border and paired with green brocade blouse. A similar ensemble exuding a vintage appeal is sure to fetch you few compliments.

Sridevi

Sridevi

Elegance personified! After all these years, she still doesn’t fail to charm. Simple yet elegant ombre saree with an extremely stylish blouse, a pair of danglers and a clutch. Sridevi’s ensemble was all about understated elegance with a touch of class. Great for those who love an unfussy and minimalist look.

Mugdha Godse

Mugdha Godse

After an outstanding performance in Fashion, Mugdha Godse was not quite at her fashionable best at the Awards night. The blouse could have been styled better and a big no to the bright red lipstick with lavender saree. Nevertheless, the idea of a lavender saree with sparkling earrings and a dazzling clutch is quite tempting.

Urmila Matondkar

Urmila Matondkar

A brilliant actress, Urmila looked gorgeous as usual. Deep and rich green saree with a pair of danglers made her look absolutely uber-glam. Re-create her ‘gorgeous green’ look that would amp up your glam quotient for sure!!

Women in White

Thursday, March 4th, 2010

Summer is approaching and it’s time again for white to make its appearance. Although this pristine neutral shade transcends all seasons, Indian summers are best to flaunt white.

Sushmita-Vidya

Sushmita-Vidya

Recently, a couple of Bollywood stars were spotted in white at public events. We love the stars and love the way they carried off their white outfits!!

Sushmita Sen

Sushmita Sen

Let’s start with Sush. Cream Anarkali suit in silk with the Dupatta featuring pale golden zari woven stripes draped over the shoulders. Accessorized with just a couple of chunky statement bracelets. French manicure, neatly styled hair and casual yet classy flip-flops.

This look would be ideal for formal events or even for social dos where an understated look is imperative.

Simple! Elegant!! Stylish!!!

Vidya Balan

Vidya Balan

As for Vidya, she looked absolutely charming in her comfortable cotton Chikankari Salwar Kameez. The contrast pear green dupatta made all the difference. Jhumkas looked perfect and the beaded bracelets gave an interesting touch. Pair of Kolhapuri chappals with a touch of green was just the right footwear to choose.

Consider a similar ensemble for a casual evening out with friends or family. College-goers might also find this look quite tempting.

Simple! Casual!! Charming!!!

In The Pink!!!

Berlin Film Festival

Berlin Film Festival

Recently, at the Berlin Film Festival Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan was spotted in pink off shoulder evening gown with sweetheart neckline. Keeping with the V-day mood, pink was the apt choice but Ash’s love affair with the color pink is nothing new.

Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan

Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan

She has been seen flaunting pink outfits on numerous occasions such as Star Screen Awards, premiere of Avatar, Shilpa-Raj wedding reception, Mumbai Police Show, etc. There’s no two ways about the fact that she looks extremely pretty in pink (or in any other color for that matter), but she’s been wearing pink a tad too much. There are other colors after all.

Pink is regarded as the ultimate color of feminity. Charming pink is the color of love, romance and beauty. This soft shade subdues aggression and evokes feelings of care, affection and kindness.

Following are few Ash’s pink ensembles we love. Recreate her ‘pink’ look and exude oodles of feminine charm.

Star Screen Awards

Star Screen Awards

Aishwarya looked stunning at the Star Screen Awards in deep coral pink net saree with contrast navy blue ruffles and embroidered pattern along the border. A similar net saree with pearl drop earrings and a shimmering clutch completes the look.

Mumbai Police Show

Mumbai Police Show

At the Mumbai Police Show, Aishwarya looked charming in a soft pastel pink saree with bold embroidered pattern in white along the border. Pearl drop earrings along with a silver finish kada style bangle blends perfectly with this look.

Premiere of Jodhaa Akbar

Premiere of Jodhaa Akbar

Opt for a simple and sweet girl-next-door look that Aishwarya chose for the premiere of Jodhaa Akbar. Soft light pink saree with silver embellishments coupled with silver finish earrings, bangles and clutch makes you look pretty.

Premiere of Avatar

Premiere of Avatar

For the premiere of Avatar, Aishwarya decided to opt for a gradient pink and pale golden Anarkali suit rather than a sari. A similar Anarkali suit accessorized  with pale golden bangles and clutch would be perfect to achieve this look.

Obsessed with pink or not, these Aishwarya-inspired pink ensembles would ensure that you get your share of compliments for sure!!!

Sanjay Dutt’s Wedding Anniversary

Thursday, February 18th, 2010

So it’s been a couple of years now since the much talked about Sanjay-Manyata wedding. Much against his family’s wishes, Sanjay Dutt, for the fearless ‘bhai’ that he is, decided to marry Manyata against all odds. Manyata, who stood by Sanjay Dutt during the most turbulent phase of his life, might prove to be his ideal life partner after his two failed marriages.

For all the speculations such as this marriage would be a disaster, it wouldn’t last, it’s a big mistake, etc, etc, etc, our Munnabhai happily celebrated his 2nd Wedding Anniversary.

The couple hosted a party at home inviting close friends from the industry and others.

Sanjay-Manyata

Sanjay-Manyata

The couple opted for an all-black look. Sanjay with his jeans, black shirt and black blazer looked good if not impressive. No comments about the black and red shoes though!!

Manyata chose to wear a black georgette saree embellished with black sequins, beads and resham embroidered striped design. Scalloped border featuring cutwork and embellishments makes the otherwise plain saree attractive.

Black is beautiful, stylish and elegant. But a complete black outfit lacking different textures can be quite drab and unimaginative. A contrast saree border, contrast embellishments or different color accents would definitely have relieved the monotony of Manyata’s all-black look.

Kangana Ranaut

Kangana Ranaut

But Kangana Ranaut was definitely the prettiest girl in the party. She looked absolutely beautiful in a white and green Anarkali Suit featuring golden floral motifs and traditional golden jhumkas. Lately, Kangana has been receiving quite a few appreciative nods thanks to a drastic change in her dressing sense, thankfully for the better. Consider this Kangana-inspired ensemble to look the prettiest in a party.

Debi Dutta

Debi Dutta

Model and aspiring actress Debi Dutta in black and blue sari paired with a halter blouse looked quite stunning. Black and blue combo never fails to impress. Turn few heads with this ensemble.

Kiron Kher

Kiron Kher

And if lustrous and rich silk saris remain your favourite, then Kiron Kher is your inspiration. Off white silk saree with bold maroon border featuring zari woven pattern paired with maroon blouse. Traditional jewellery set and batua completes the ensemble.

Love is in the air…

Wednesday, February 10th, 2010

A day for love, sweet nothings, candles and candle-lit dinners, chocolates, jewellery, wonderful gifts, cards, roses, the color red, memorable moments….and, of course, beautiful outfits.

A day when looking your best is imperative. But what’s more important is to keep in mind that you don’t go overboard with your outfit or jewellery. Valentine’s Day is not exactly the day to flaunt your extravagantly embellished Saris or Churidar Suits and heavy necklace sets.

The key is to look beautiful, fresh and alluring. It’s you that your beloved is interested in and not your clothes or jewellery collection. Keeping with the romantic mood of the day choose outfits in ravishing black, alluring red, rich wine, charming peach or romantic pink.

It’s a good idea to stay away from overtly embellished outfits featuring kundans, zardosi, etc. You need to be comfortable in what you wear and worrying if your ornately embellished outfit is getting damaged is the last thing you should be thinking about.

Saris

Saris

Georgette or net saris with beautiful borders featuring shimmering sequins and resham embroidered motifs would be perfect. The sparkle and shimmer of sequins adds that right touch of glamour.

Lehenga Style Saree

Lehenga Style Saree

If saris don’t sound appealing, consider an embellished Lehenga style sari.

Churidar Suit

Churidar Suit

Instead of the conventional Salwar/Churidar suits, try Anarkali suits or Churidar suits with interesting cuts.

Kurti

Kurti

When it’s not a formal evening that you have planned, try jeans with kurti or trendy tops. Accessorize it with elegant jewellery.

Jewellery

Jewellery

Consider your outfit when choosing jewellery. Minimal jewellery would look good with embellished clothes while relatively simpler outfits could do with gorgeous pieces of jewellery, but be careful not to go overboard.

The much awaited romantic V-Day evening comes just once a year. So don’t miss this opportunity to dress up and enjoy the evening with your beloved.

I am slightly overweight. What kind of saree should I opt for?

Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009
It’s all about choosing the right fabric. A saree in a right fabric draped gracefully (fitted neatly and without any unnecessary tuck-ins) can literally make you look 5 pounds lighter.
Sari
  • Pick lighter fabrics such as georgettes, chiffons, crepe, etc. instead of stiff ones. Avoid heavy cotton which will make you look heavier.
  • Always buy saris which will drape and fit close to your body.

Saree

  • Avoid light shades. Dark and enriching colors works best if you are overweight.
  • Make sure your saree is draped neatly. (Do not tuck in unnecessarily to adjust the look of your saree)
  • If your saree is of a heavy or thick fabric, then avoid tucking too many pleats at the waist. Gracefully, adjust the length of your saree so that it’s evenly draped across your body.
  • Avoid shiny or glossy fabrics.

Success Story Of RAIR

Wednesday, June 17th, 2009

Being an online retailer of Indian clothing for over a decade now, we’ve noticed quite a dearth of apparels and outfits that exude a ‘designer look’. Needless to say, that there are hundreds of online shopping portals with quite a few mushrooming everyday. But a closer look at them would prove the fact that most of the outfits that are sold are quite stereotypical; to the extent that it’s often puzzling to distinguish one from the other. While there’s nothing really wrong with that, after all one can’t expect to flaunt ‘designer wear’ all the time, at the same time we couldn’t ignore the fact that there is certainly a need for a ‘designer collection’ that is accessible to the general public. Who wouldn’t love to include a designer brand in one’s closet but a look at the price tag would compel one to think otherwise. Hence with these two most important points in our mind, one being ‘designer wear’ and the other being ‘general masses’, last year we’ve finally launched our very own designer collection ‘RAIR’.
As with every new beginning, honestly, we were apprehensive about the response it would get. But we weren’t really ready for the overwhelming response it got!!
Every creation in this collection has been given special attention. A deliberate and careful attempt has been made to ensure that even a single outfit doesn’t resemble the other in any way. A versatile collection, what makes this collection so appealing and likeable is the fact that it includes outfits that would appeal to every taste. Be it dazzle and vibrancy, class and understated elegance or splendor and magnificence – we have everything that caters to all tastes.
What makes this collection special is its beautiful blend of fashion aesthetics that is purely Indian with a contemporary appeal, which makes it extremely ‘wearable’ in these modern and fashionable times.
Even though every creation is stunningly beautiful, following are a few that have been quite a success and have become a sensation:

Our customers have been wonderfully appreciative of our collection. Here are a few responses that we would like to share:
“….. truly excellent…”
“…extremely happy with the outfit..”
“ Thanks. It is a really nice saree”
“Everything about it was absolutely great.”
“… it’s beautiful.”
“Excellent in every sense of the word.”

The following is our personal favourite:
“…was very pleased with my purchase, it was even prettier when I put it on, compared to what it was in the photo! (And I am no model.)”
This proves that RAIR has successfully achieved what it aimed for, which is to impart a glamour goddess look.
The tremendous success of RAIR I along with the overwhelming and encouraging response from our customers have tempted us, once again, to launch our next collection RAIR II. Presenting a brand new collection of exquisite creations that you just can’t take your eyes off!!

Determining your Bust Size

Tuesday, June 16th, 2009

Owing to a lot of confusion regarding bust size and bra size, we thought it best to make an attempt at clarifying the basic difference between both these sizes.

To begin with, bust size is not the same as bra size.

There is always a difference of two to three inches between both the sizes. For e.g. A 36D or 36DD bra size would result in anything between 38 to 42 bust size.
At the same time, there could be instances where both would measure the same. For e.g. A bra size of 32A or 32B could have 32 as the bust size as well.
But, never would the bust size be less than the bra size. For e.g. A 36C or 36D bra size with the bust size being 34 is impossible, and hence the measurements are incorrect.
While ordering an outfit, it is necessary to understand that an outfit is stitched based on the bust size and not on the bra size. Hence, it is extremely important to provide the correct bust measurements. Following are the steps to help you:

Step One: Band Size
Using a soft tape-measure, measure around the ribcage below the bust. The tape should rest on the lower band of the bra. Be sure the tape is snug, smooth at the back and level with the front. Add 5 to this measurement to obtain the band size. For example, if ribcage measures 29″, then adding 5 would result in 34″ band size. If the resulting band size is an odd number such as 33″, the next even band size (34″) could be chosen. Alternatively, the lower even band size (32″) could also be considered.

Step Two: Cup Size
Measure completely around the bust at the fullest point, holding the tape measure straight but not tight. The difference between this measurement and the BAND size is the cup size. Each inch of difference is equal to one cup size. For example, if the band size obtained is 34″ and the bust measures 35″, then it would result in an “A” cup.
If the difference is:
Less than 1 inch = AA cup
1 inch = A cup
2 inches = B cup
3 inches = C cup
4 inches = D cup
5 inches = DD cup
6 inches = E cup
